Hydroforming takes butting and shaping a step further by allowing complicated 3-dimensional engineered shapes to be readily manufactured. By changing the shape of a tube you can tune how it will behave under the riders load. Increasing the size of a tube near a welded junction increases its strength in a similar way as butting, but spreads the load over a larger area. Our Hydro-Edge tubing starts as a butted round tube that is connected at both ends to a high pressure hydraulic pump. The tube is then secured into a two piece, precision CNC machined split mold, created directly from the 3-D computer file. Hydraulic fluid is delivered at high pressures into the tube which expands out to form the shape of the mold. This advanced manufacturing process produces tubes of remarkable strength, low weight, and striking aesthetic appeal.
