Marin’s Sammy Bryant is hanging up her pedals……but something tells us the super-talented teenager will be back.
The 16-year-old has struggled with illness over the past few months and has also started a tough course in Sports Science at North West Kent college.
And fitting in her studies with a part time job in a bike shop at home in Swanley means that something’s got to give.
Emotional dad Peter told us: “Racing is all she has done since she was nine and it’s been a huge part of our lives. I am going to miss it and I know Samantha will too.
“We will see how it goes and maybe she will be back before we know it.”
Sammy finishes this part of her career as the third ranked national youth girl and the Southern area champion for her class.
She would also have won the Southern XC girls’ title but missed the final event recently.
Fat Tony from Marin UK said: “Sammy has been a familiar figure on the podium at events for Marin and Wilier over the past few years. Her blonde hair and pretty, mud-splattered face have been a picture when she hasn’t had time to get cleaned up before the podium presentations.
“We are all going to miss her. Let’s hope she makes a come back after a complete break from the sport.
“And we should also pay tribute to her dad Peter. He’s been the driving force behind her success and the driver who has taken them all over the UK racing. I know he’s gutted but he is standing by her decision like any good dad would.
“I have a funny feeling we haven’t seen the last of Sammy Bryant!”
MBUK team up with Marin UK to test the new selection of the 2009 Marin bikes product range including the spanking new Hammerschmidit equipped Attack Trail.
